We meet at 8:45 am in front of Champéry train station to begin this trek around the Dents du Midi. After introductions, the guide's briefing, and bag checks, we set off for a first day of 15 km, with 1500 m of elevation gain and 750 m of elevation loss.

The path climbs steeply through the spruce forest before joining a balcony trail overlooking the Saufla cirque. We gradually enter a more alpine environment, until we reach the Pas d'Encel, a limestone canyon that marks the transition to the Susanfe meadows. The surrounding cliffs bear witness to the ancient geological history of the massif.

We then hike up the valley to a stone hut, perfect for a break with a hot drink. Next, we reach the pass at 2400m before descending towards Lake Salanfe. Our day ends at the refuge located on the lake shore, at an altitude of 1900m.
